Maaike Gerritse
Postdoctoral researcher Data analysis and Personalized Nutrition
Maaike Gerritse started her postdoc at the Brithlands Greenport Campus Venlo, the second location of the NIMO lab, in 2026. As a trained bioinformatician, she analyses omics datasets from previous projects, including microbiome data and gene expression data from adipose tissue. Her future studies at NIMO lab will focus on personalized nutrition. This field aims to elucidate why certain (groups of) people respond differently to a certain diet.
During her PhD at Wageningen University, Maaike studied the effects of pesticides on the human gut and nasal microbiome as well as direct effects of pesticides on the epithelial tissues of the gut and the airways using organoid cell culture methods. She obtained a MSc in Systems Biology and Bioinformatics from Maastricht University in 2021 and a BSc in Medical Sciences and Technology from Technical University Eindhoven in 2019.
