Kiana Meshkat is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Human Biology, NUTRIM School of Nutrition and Translational Research in Metabolism, at Maastricht University Medical Centre+. Supervised by Ruth Meex and Ellen Blaak, her research focuses on metabolism and metabolic health, with a particular interest in personalized medicine. She studies tissue-specific insulin resistance and how differences in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, liver, circulating proteins, and metabolomic profiles may contribute to individual variation in cardiometabolic health.

Before beginning her Ph.D. journey, Kiana received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Cell and Molecular Biology. Besides working in the laboratory, she previously worked in a hospital surgery room, where she was involved in the collection of umbilical cord blood and placental stem cells.
